About School Physicals

A school physical is mandatory for many Illinois children. It provides a proactive assessment of your child’s vitals, joints, medical history, and immunizations prior to the start of a new school year.

School Physical Process

Make sure you bring along any paperwork provided by your child’s school, camp, or coach. All Illinois and Indiana Departments of Health require medical documentation of a physical exam from the previous year for any student enrolling in school from kindergarten through senior year of high school (K-12).

During a school physical, you can expect our physicians to:

  • Measure your child’s weight, height, blood pressure, and pulse

  • Check your child’s eyes, ears, nose, throat, lymph nodes, heart, lungs, and abdominals for any abnormalities

  • Assess your child’s neck, spine, shoulders, arms, wrists, elbows, knees, legs, and feet

  • Make sure your child has their up-to-date immunizations

  • Review your medical history
